As Europe’s first sustainable mining company, we’re a leading supplier for some of the largest markets for deicing salt. Besides our rock salt, we produce a very pure vacuum salt for various applications ranging from food to water technologies. Meeting both European and American standards, we’re able to offer efficient logistical solutions through our two deep seaports in Barcelona, Spain and Tees, United Kingdom.

ICL Salt

Direct railway connections ensure rapid and economically friendly transport of high volumes of salt from our mines to our warehouses in the ports. Our warehouses hold over 100.000 metric tons of salt with low carbon footprint for our customers all over the European and American markets.

At ICL’s quays in Barcelona, Spain and Tees, United Kingdom, Panamax vessels can be loaded with capacities up to 24,000 metrics tons per day. Both deep-water ports allow vessels up to 70,000 DWT, reducing our carbon footprint even further and directly saving our customers money.

ICL’s facilities in the ports are company owned. As a result, dependence on third parties is reduced to an absolute minimum.

Logistics

Production

ICL operates two rock salt mines, located in Súria, Spain and Boulby, United Kingdom. We adopt continuous mining techniques for our rock salt with downstream crushing and sieving processes. By using a variety of sieve decks, we cover multiple international market standards. By adding a required minimum of anti-caking agents, we ensure our customers a free-flowing product that’s ready to use as soon as frost is forecast.

Sustainability

ICL’s Phoenix strategy is aiming at future proof sustainability. Since more than a decade, a series of projects contributed and continues to contribute to reducing our carbon footprint, increase efficiency for our customers and build a circular economy by avoiding any more production tailings harming our Catalonian nature.

We reduce the generation of waste by more than 60% through our newly built vacuum salt plants and commercialize new products that contribute to a circular economy. Also, we develop new logistical and transport solutions for both railway and seaway, causing a significant reduction in our carbon footprint and supporting the EU Green Deal and TSM program.

We are a leading mineral producer with major salt, potash, phosphate, and bromine natural resources that are integral to unique industrial high-end applications, consumer product innovations and agricultural efficiency and sustainability.
